Futsal Fridays! see flyer hereFutsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlike some other forms of indoor soccer, the game is played on a hard court surface that is lined; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce (heavier) than a regular soccer ball to encourage footwork on the ground. The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.
The court can vary in size and goal height & size can vary depending on number of players or type of play desired. A kick-in is used instead of a throw-in. The player must place the ball on the touchline where it went out of play. The ball must be stationary and the kick-in must be taken within 4 seconds from the time the player is ready. During kick-in, opponents must stand at least 5m from the ball. Corner kicks and penalty kicks are similar to regular soccer. The goalie can only roll or throw the ball out, but not past the midfield line. Matches can be anywhere from 20 minute halves to 5 minute or mini games with teams rotating in and out. Tournaments are exciting, fast, with lots of scoring. Friday evenings at ’s the new Southside Sports Center on the campus of Kauai Christian Fellowship.
